Recently modernised and fully fitted with modern furnishings during 2009 and 2010, the local Corfiot owner Spiros, wants to share with you the delights of his comfortable and stylish apartment which he loves to visit himself when he is not at sea. Just a stones throw from the sandy/shingle beach at Kalami, and with a choice of beachside tavernas to choose from, your holiday is awaiting you

Upon entering the spacious and cool ground floor apartment, you will notice immediately that Spiros has chosen his colour scheme and fittings well. One large room with an open plan kitchen, dining area and lounge share this space. The kitchen area includes an electric full oven with ceramic hob, fridge/freezer, coffee maker, kettle, juice maker and toaster. A wooden dining table and four matching chairs are placed in the centre of the room for inside meal times.  The living room offers Satellite television (Nova) with approx 40 different global channels, air conditioning (payable extra locally), bookcase and a settee. There is also a washing machine housed in the laundry cupboard in the hallway.

It has a wooden table with six matching chairs for your alfresco dining, and overlooks the main through road of the village, local shops and sea in the distance. The property is surrounded by a boundary wall with wrought iron entrance gates to the front and the house name plaque clearly displayed.

The beach front has lots to offer everyone, with sunbeds and sun umbrellas to hire for relaxing, unwinding and shading from the hot sun during the height of the summer months. Swimming and snorkeling is excellent here as the pebbly shore offers interesting fish in and around the rocks. You may see the odd yacht moored up in the bay and waterskiing is also available (ask for Louise!) which is found on the blue floating jetty to the left (north) of the bay.

Why not hire a boat for the day from Kalami (pre book through www.affordable-corfu.com) and explore up and down the coast, take a picnic with you, or moor up to a taverna's beach front jetty for a mid morning coffee, ice cream or lavish lunch, the choice is yours!

The apartment has off road car parking for either one or two small cars, found at the rear of the property.

Olympia Greece was the site of the ancient Olympic Games, which were celebrated every four years by the Greeks. Olympia was situated in a valley in Elis, in western Peloponnesus, through which runs the Alpheus River. It was not a town, but only a sanctuary with buildings associated with games and the worship of the gods. Olympia was a national shrine of the Greeks and contained many treasures of Greek art, such as temples, monuments, altars, theaters, statues, and votive offerings of brass and marble. The Altis, or sacred precinct, enclosed a level space about 200 m (about 660 ft) long by nearly 177 m (nearly 580 ft) broad. In this were the chief centers of religious worship, the votive buildings, and buildings associated with the administration of the games.

Kalami Village

Set on a beautiful bay and enclosed by verdant headlands, Kalami is a pleasant little resort, with the accent still very much on peace and relaxation.

All amenities including, supermarkets, beachside tavernas, boat hire and watersports are just a minutes walk away from your accommodation and shingle beach! The snorkellers paradise of Yialiskari Bay with its crystal clear waters is easily reached on foot and the “gourmet capital” of  Corfu, Agni Bay, noted for its’ traditional Corfiot atmosphere and excellent seafood is a few minutes further along an easily walkable coastal path. Small Taxi boats meander in and out of the various bays ferrying diners between seaside tavernas in nearby resorts, a lovely way to sample local the cuisine!

Kalami and many areas of Corfu are synonymous with the Durrell family, though it is a little surprising perhaps, that of  the two brothers, Lawrence (1912 – 1990) and Gerald (1925 – 1995), it was Gerald the naturalist rather than Lawrence, the poet who has so inextricably linked the family name with the island of Corfu.

Gerald’s’ love of animals became a passion during his period of residence in Corfu in the early 1930’s.  He was a prolific author, producing more than 35 informative, yet amusing books about animals and living creatures.  His best known book, My Family and Other Animals, has recently been re adapted for television and filmed on location here in the Kalami area on Corfu by the BBC.

Lawrence and his wife Nancy resided in the “White House”, on the seafront here in Kalami, originally a single storey fisherman’s cottage; a second storey was added at the Durrell’s request.  Nowadays the rooms where Lawrence wrote the renowned Prospero’s Cell have been converted into an apartment and the lower level is now a taverna.

Here are a few of the nearby bays to Villa Olympia Apartment in Kalami

Nissaki Beach

nissaki nissaki nissaki

The name Nissaki (or Nisaki) means "little island" and according to the Corfiot’s, was the name given to the small island that was joined with the mainland caused by many years of piled up rubble from the old nearby query. That original island is now joined to the land and occupied by the ‘Mitsos Taverna’. Nissaki is the first of the pretty little coves nestling at the base of Mount Pantokrator which you reach when heading north from Corfu Town. A small side lane leads off the main road and peters out by the sea where a handful of tavernas are perched on a small rocky headland which juts into the crystal clear waters. On one side of the headland is a miniature pebbly beach and on the other a newly built harbour where a few small fishing boats jostle with a handful of little motor boats for hire.

Barbati Beach

nissaki nissaki nissaki

Barbati took its name from the mansion of the noble Barbatis family and its beach is a white stretch of shingle against an azure sea. Wonderfully situated to provide whatever you are looking for in a holiday: You can laze in the sun, explore the coast by boat, take part in all kinds of water sports and enjoy the good restaurants. Barbati is perched at the foot of Mount Pantokrator, amidst green cypress trees; it has breathtaking views across to Corfu Town on the right and Albania on the left. The sheer, rocky backdrop secludes Barbati from the rest of the island, giving it an isolated, hidden feel. The village also offers a small selection of bars, tavernas, supermarkets, launderette and souvenir shops, with a newly built church in the centre of the village.

Kaminaki Bay

nissaki nissaki nissaki

Agni Bay

nissaki nissaki nissaki

Agni literally translates as ‘unspoilt’ in Greek and this describes the bay perfectly. Accessed by a narrow and winding road, the drive is well worth the effort as the bay is beautiful, with crystal clear waters surrounded by olive and cypress trees. A choice of 3 tavernas and a snack bar with sunbeds and umbrella’s all on the beach front.

Yaliskari Bay

nissaki nissaki nissaki

The next small bay to Agni is Yaliskari Bay; it is completely undeveloped and has excellent swimming and snorkeling here. You can reach it on foot from Agni over a track to the rock formations.

nissaki nissaki nissaki

Nearby is the ‘Chapel of Agios Arsenius’ mentioned by Lawrence Durrell in “Prospero Cell”. Below it is a small underwater cave for the more adventurous snorkelers and swimmers.

Krouzeri Beach

nissaki nissaki nissaki
nissaki nissaki nissaki

Krouzeri Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Corfu. Therefore it has the BLUE FLAG of the European Nation.  Krouzeri Beach combines magical colours, flaming sunsets, luxurious vegetation, (lush green even in the height of summer) a riot of radiant flowers and colourful blooms, centuries old olive groves and rich pergolas. Krouzeri has a long beach (pebble and sand) offering safe swimming, many water sports and diving. Beachside tavernas provide welcome refreshments to those enjoying the beach and excellent snorkeling. The nearby Nissaki Beach Hotel offers a swimming pool which is open to non-residents, a restaurant and bar and, during the evening a low-key disco.

Kouloura Harbour

nissaki nissaki nissaki

Kouloura is a small pretty fishing village not a resort. Here there is a working harbour, where many of the locals moor there boats. The view of the harbour is probably one of the most painted in the area. The main house is owned by the Agnelli family as their holiday home. Kouloura is an excellent example of a small traditional Greek bay that has not been adversely affected by tourism.
At the other end of the bay there is a small beach named ‘Chouchoulio Beach’ ideal for swimming and sunbathing. A walk around the harbour is interesting, but to see the best view of Kouloura is to drive or walk up to the main road turn right and there is an excellent photo point of the harbour and views across to Albania. There is one fish Taverna in Kouloura, it also serves some meat dishes but no bars!
