suppliers in each area, all with exceptionally good rates.
This gives you the freedom to enjoy the delights of Corfu to your
own agenda and pace. |
Selecting
the 'type of hire car' suitable for you |
It is very important to select the size of the hire car which is appropriate
to the requirements of your party. Small group A cars have little space for luggage
and also have relatively small engines. Parties of four or more staying at villas
involving steep roads or rough tracks should always upgrade the car group or
consider a four wheel drive vehicle. Please check with our sales staff on the
suitability of the vehicle for the accommodation. We also recommend that the
capacity of the car hired should exceed the number in your party. The relatively
small extra cost for a larger car ensures you the maximum comfort, as well as
extra capacity for luggage and beach items.
Once your party has decided on the group of hire car, submit all the details
to us, ie date of arrival on Corfu, duration, collection point (airport, port
or accommodation) with nesessary flight number, Uk departure airport and
landing time, followed by return departure date, drop off point and time of your
flight (please allow at least two hours check in for your return flight as Corfu
airport now has a radar scanning machine that ALL luggage has to go through prior
to the checking in process). Once our office has received this information by
email from you, then we can process your request. |
Collecting
the hire car |
Upon arrival at either airport or port, you will be greeted by our Car Hire agent,
and handed over the car once the necessary paperwork has been filled in and signed.
You will receive the top copy of the contract along with a road map of corfu.
Clear driving instructions will be provided for your onward journey to your chosen
accommodation with affordable-corfu.com

Driving
Licence |
Please
ensure that you have a valid EU driving licnece with you when
collecting your car. This includes both the pink/green European
Community Licence and the new photo-card licence. The driver
of the car must always carry both licence and passport when driving
the car. Please advise us at the time of booking if you do not
have an EU licence so that we can check that the one you have
is acceptable to the car hire company. Your driving licence MUST
be valid for at least two (2) years. |
Drink
Driving
|
The legal
drink drive limit in Greece is one unit of alcohol. In the event
of an accident the police will breathalyse the driver if they suspect
he or she has consumed alcohol. Severe penalties can be enforced
if the driver id found to be over the limit, so we advise guests
to abstain from alcohol when in charge of a vehicle. |
Driving
in Corfu |
The law
insists that you always carry your driving licnece and car hire
documents with you when driving in Corfu. Random checks and breath
testing are quite common.
Although much work has been done to the Corfiot roads over the
past few years, most of them, particulsrly country and mountain
roads, remain narrow and winding, and some are in poor state
of repair. Guests staying in rural or mountain accommodation
in particular should take this into consideration. Smaller vehicles
are easier to navigate through the narrow roads, and a few of these tracks
may sometimes have bumps and pot-holes, especially after periods of rain. If
you do encounter a rain shower, please be extra careful on the roads allowing
more space between you and the person in front, as the rain can make the roads
very slippy due to the constant heat on the tarmac and the shedding of
the olives from the trees. We do ask that you take particular care when driving
on these roads, bearing in mind the conditions of your hire car rental agreement. |
Age
Restrictions: The minimum rental age on Corfu is 23 years old. |
Extra
day charges
|
Hire
periods are calculated on a 24 hour basis. Therefore, additional
charges may apply if you enter into an additional 24 hour hire
period.If we are not made aware of this prior to your departure,
charges will be made at the local rate by the car hire company. |
Child
Seats and Special Requests
|
Infant
and child car seats and booster seats can be provided (subject
to availability), and are charged at three (3) Euros per
day. Please note that car hire staff do not generally install
the child seats. Instructions are provided wherever possible,
but style and installation may differ to those in the UK. You
may prefer to bring your own child seat for your own peace of
mind.
Roof racks are on a request basis (not available on some vehicles) and are prices
at three (3) Euros per day.
'Out of Office hours' surcharge, fifteen (15) Euros for delivery of
car hire to airport, accommodation or port between the hours of 23.00hrs
and 07.00am
Each car may have up to two (2) additional named drivers free of charge, but
a third (3) extra driver will cost 20 Euros. |
General
Information |
Affordable-corfu.com's
rates include unlimited mileage, full collision damage waiver
(with a damage excess of 300 Euros in the event of an accident),
third party theft insurance cover, all Government taxes and delivery/collection
to and from resort, airport or port. The car hire company will
provide full terms and conditions at the time od collection. Damage
to the undercarriage of the vehicle, windscreen or tyres
are the hirers' responsibility and NOT covered by the insurance.
All cars delivered with at least half a tank of petrol, and
should be returned 'as found' (circled on the car hire
agreement) and paid by the renter.
All hire cars are NOT permitted to leave the island of Corfu.
All vehicles are insured for a maximum number of passengers. Affordable-corfu.com
cannot accept liability for the vehicle being unsuitable for all passnegers and
luggage.
In the case of breakdown or mechanical difficulties, you must call the hire
car company immediately, using the telephone number, which appears on the
rental agreement. The local car hire company must give authority for repairs
or replacement cars. If you are involved in an accident, the local police
and car hire company MUST be contacted. Keep copies of all relevant documentation
you are asked to complete. This may be needed if you wish to make an insurance claim.Negligence
connected with the theft of the vehicle may lead to the supplier requiring
the full deductable amount for the cost of the vehicle.
Loss of car key can result in a 150 Euro fine to replace the key.

in resort |
Should
you decide to wait until your arrival here on Corfu to book a
car, please be advised that due to local demand the availability
of certain cars and groups is usually very restricted, particularly
during the 'high' season. However, contact our resort office or
rep, giving them details and we will try our best to find
you your requirements. |
